The Inspiratory Exerciser 2500ml from Voldyne is a training device that aims to improve the function of the respiratory muscles through resistance exercise.

How does the Inspiratory Exerciser work?

The device has a valve that will give resistance when breathing in. The breathing exercises are designed to help patients take long deep breaths, to help clear the mucus in the lungs and increase the amount of oxygen getting into the lungs.

This respiratory trainer is ideal for people who suffer from Asthma, Bronchitis, Emphysema and COPD to track their respiratory fitness and enhance their lung performance. This device is also used for patients who have had lung or heart surgery, or surgeries involving extended periods of time under anaesthesia to monitor post-surgical breathing exercises. The pressure, when breathing in, can be adapted ensuring muscle training at the prescribed setting.

How to use?

  1. Sit up straight and put the pressure indicator to the proper level
  2. Just relax, exhale as much air as comfortably possible. Place the mouthpiece in your mouth and seal your lips around it. Use a nose clip to ensure you are only breathing through your mouth.
  3. Then slowly inhale deeply to open the valve. The right level of intensity should be ‘hard’ but would not exhaust you. Try to keep the flow indicator at the better or best position. At the end of your inhalation, hold your breath for at least 5 sec allowing the piston to fall back to ‘0’.
  4. Repeat this up to 10 times per session. If possible try this 4 times a day.
  5. Try to do the exercise at the same time each day. Be consistent!

Graduations on the side of the unit and the good/better/best flow indicator will let you visualize your daily improvement.

Care

The Inspiratory Exerciser should be cleaned once a weak with warm soapy water once a week. Rinse well and let it air dry.
