What is a TENS machine?

TENS is the abbreviation of ‘Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation’. In TENS therapy, a small, hand-held, battery-operated unit delivers a low-voltage electrical current through the skin via electrodes placed around the source of pain. The impulses from the electrodes stimulate nerves in the affected area and send signals to the brain that ‘interferes’ with normal pain sensation.
