Respiratory Care - Peak Flow Meter

Peak flow meters are important tools for people with respiratory conditions, such as asthma, COPD, emphysema and chronic respiratory infections.

Peak Flow Meters are handheld devices for patients with respiratory issues and measure how well their lungs are functioning. They work by measuring how fast air comes out of the lungs when you blow into them as hard as you can.

By using a peak flow meter regularly, you can keep track of your lung function over time. This helps you and your doctor understand if your condition is getting better or worse and allows you to adjust your treatment plan accordingly.

During an asthma episode, your airways often narrow. A peak flow meter can measure narrowing hours, even days before you display signs of an asthma episode. By taking your asthma medication when your peak flow meter indicates changes, you may be able to avoid a serious asthma episode.

Low Range Peak Flow Meter

There are also low range peak flow meters, which are tailored for individuals with lower baseline lung function, such as children or more severe respiratory conditions. The difference between low and normal range peak flow meters is the range of measurements they can provide.

Low range meters measure lower levels of airflow, where baseline lung function has already been significantly impacted.
