Keep your pen at the right temperature

As a diabetic, the one thing that is important to sort is how to keep pens at the right temperature whilst travelling. Your diabetic pens help you to regulate your blood sugar levels. If you don’t ensure it stays at the required temperature, your diabetic accessories may be less effective.

Like for some other conditions, diabetic accessories are sensitive to heat and to cold; it needs to be stored at a temperature of between 18 and 26 °C.  Our diabetic cooler pouch is an ideal essential diabetic travel accessory that will help achieve that.

What fits in the Diabetic Cooler Pouch?

It is suitable for carrying:

• 2x standard-sized diabetic pens either pre-filled disposable or refillable; or 
• 1x standard-sized diabetic pen plus 2 x 3 ml cartridges

How to use the Glucology Cooler Pouch?

These are the steps you’ll need to take to use the cooler pouch:

1.    Soak the inner pouch containing the crystals in cold water for 8-10 minutes.

2.    While immersing, make sure the crystals are spread evenly inside the pouch. 

3.    After 8-10 min, remove the pouch from the water.

4.    Place on a flat surface and allow to drain for 5 minutes.

5.    Gently dry the cooler bag (using a towel or tissues)

6.    When mostly dry, place the medication in the cooler bag and the activated pouch in the outer cover of the cooler bag.

7.    For safe storage, the pouch should be re-immersed in water every 36 hours or sooner if the quantity of gel reduces and it starts returning to its crystal form.

8.    When in continuous use, 2-3 minutes of immersion in water will be sufficient, depending on the size of the pouch.

9.    If not in use, store the Diabetic Cooler Pouch in a cool and dry place until next use.

Cleaning and storage

When not in use, remove the inner pouch from the outer cover and allow it to dry out naturally until the gel returns to its crystal form.

To keep the crystals separate, gently shake the pouch when drying. The drying period can take 2-4 weeks depending on the size of the bag and the climate.
